Chicken Pox The Film with original music by Thoth
NEWFILMMAKERS NEW YORK 212-410-9404
New York’s Leading Screening Series Celebrating Our Eleventh Year
On Wednesday, September 17th, at 8pm and 9:15pm
NewFilmmakers New York presents
Andrew H. Shirley's debut feature film CHICKEN POX (2008, 80 Minutes, Video).
Casted from the streets and filmed in real New York dives, drug dens, madame houses and penthouses, CHICKEN POX is a portrait of characters that embody the subversive purity of old New York. It promises to be one of the weirdest and socially thought provoking films of our time, destined to be a cult classic.
An elderly drag queen Miss Marjory (Jack Doroshow aka Flawless Sabrina of THE QUEEN 1968) has no interest in reuniting with her lost son, despite her two orderlies' inquiries. The two men learn of a magical Golden Egg that "The Satan Family" possesses, the same family that adopted Miss Marjory's son- Jerry Satan.
A pregnant hooker, Tina is infatuated with her gynecologist who does little to persuade her whether or not to keep her baby. Her madame (Brenda Monte of UNMADE BEDS), sets up a big score for Tina and two other hookers (Raine Brown and Eve Blangiardo). This 'sexscapade' is a present for Jerry Satan, as he watches over the Satan family's "Golden Egg" for the weekend while his older foster brother is away whoring.
Andrew H. Shirley is a multi-media artist and poet living in Brooklyn. His work has shown in New York City and throughout America, and has been published internationally. Obsessed with the culture of the weird and deviant, his work varies from experimental/narrative film and video portraits to street deconstruction/ installation, drawing and painting.
NewFilmmakers NY screens every Wednesday at Anthology Film Archives on the Lower East Side at the corner of Second Avenue & 2nd Street. Admission is still $5*.
(*price includes admission and open bar of beer and whiskey and all you can eat chicken wings at Kurve from 11pm - 1am.
Kurve is located on the SW corner of 2nd ave / east 5th st)

The Resurrection Of Mandragora
The new CD The Resurrection Of Mandragora — nine tracks of original instrumental music for guitar and violin by my friend Dominic del Principe and myself — is finished. Presently, Dominic and I are awaiting copies. Our first printing is 100 units. If you would like to hear a preview of the CD, click on PREVIEW. Our infinite thanks to mixtress Willa Bassen for her prowess in polishing up this CD and bringing it to life despite my desire to move out of mic range at the most passionate moments. The title was inspired and is a homage to Willa's skill and generosity. Stop by or hang around after a prayformance to get one of these wonderful CD's and listen to Dominic and I (and sometimes Arlen Olesen on hammer dulcimer) perform our new romantic impressionistic music (6:30 - 7:30pm until the time change).
My book of short stories, Ruby And The Treehouse is coming along. I am presently editing it with the help of three brilliant friends: Warren Bates, Dominic del Principe, and Raenite; who are checking grammar, redundancy, continuity, etc., making sure that it is in tip top shape. I feel very lucky to have such talent assisting me in this project.
In regards to the web site, it has some new fan videos and photographs.
Feel free to check back in a week to see if the CD's have arrived.
